Contest! ...and Newly Added Mantra Rings

I've been falling in love with aluminum these past few weeks. I started out making cuff bracelets and sort of fell into the idea of creating these mantra rings when I accidentally ordered aluminum that was a little too thin to use for the cuffs I had in mind. I realized if I cut them down to ring size, they are perfect for stamping smaller mantras and inspirational quotes and daily reminders. Here's what I've made so far: "Write Every Day" This was the first ring I made, for myself, since I almost always use myself as a guinea pig for new jewelry. I wear it around for a week or two and make adjustments if necessary. I was sitting there with the aluminum, wondering what to stamp. I have a habit of using my rings to remind myself of things...I'll move one to an odd finger when I have something important I need to remember to do, similar to the string tied on a finger in "It's a Wonderful Life". Unlucky luck..

After all the stuff I went through to exchange the Speedfire Electric Mini Kiln (which didn't work for me, but did work for the company and it took a few emails/phone calls to get them to exchange it for the Paragon Digital Firefly) I finally received my more expensive and HOPEFULLY more reliable kiln on Friday. AND wouldn't you know it...it had an error right off the bat that wouldn't let it fire anything or even start running. So apparently I either have to replace the thermocouple (thing that measures temperature) or the digital box that shows what the temp is and regulates everything for the firing process. Here's my gripe about this...I received a brand new and quite expensive (in my budget) piece of machinery that didn't work, not once, properly. And now I'm expected to replace parts of this machine to make it work...but I'm not confident enough to do this because for one, the parts have to be taken apart with weird screw drivers that are drilled...

Harry Potter and the First Date Since Baby was Born

With my husband being active duty Air Force, we tend to live far away from our families. With him recruiting right now, we also live very far from any military bases, so we don't have that support group or network of friends we had when he worked at Barksdale Air Force Base. This is the reason that in the 10 months since Baby J was born, we haven't gone as a couple anywhere without her. So it was amazing and a little terrifying when Steve's sister drove over two hours with her boyfriend and 19 month old son to watch Baby J while Steve and I went out to see the final Harry Potter movie last night. The movie was excellent. One of those movies that I can't stop thinking about the day after watching it (it was epic, emotional, closed the story exactly the way I pictured it, and pretty much everything I had hoped for after reading the books).
